We understand that with any orchestral string instrument, the specialist set-up of a luthier can transform the tone and playability. The BEC205 handcrafted student viola represents the perfect canvas for skilled craftsmen to apply finishing touches, ensuring an enjoyable and rewarding introduction to viola playing. Bridges and pegs are fitted to each instrument at the factory, leaving more time for luthiers to focus on the finest details of their personal set-up.

Produced using selected materials, these instruments are finished with an oil-based varnish for a stunning look and enhanced resonance that out-perform all instruments at this price range.

This viola comes complete as an outfit including a good quality composite MMX bow and a Tom & Will hard case.

The MMX range

MMX has been working with master luthier Guofang Wang and his family workshop in China for nearly a decade, producing a broad selection of orchestral stringed instruments. We offer instruments to suit all abilities, from the Student series right through to our Signature instruments which comfortably hold their own in professional orchestral and solo playing.

Attention to detail

All of our instruments across the range are produced with care and keen attention throughout the process, making them delightful to play and exceptional value for money. Tone woods are sourced from the forests of Sichuan or Yunnan Province and seasoned to perfection. The proprietary oil-based varnish is accurately mixed to our master luthier’s recipe and gives our instruments the antique finish which not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also develops their resonance.
